Though people usually love the subtropical weather in most parts of Australia, they never shy away from a little fun with snow. That’s why this year, the Air + Style Snowboarding & Skiing Competition will take place in Sydney from August 3, 4 and 5. Organizers have chosen The Domain for this event. The highlight of the event is the 16-storey ramp covered with snow that would be set up for the snowboarders and skiers to do what they do best!
A history of Air + Style
Air + Style has definitely come a long way. This massive competition began in Innsbruck, Austria in 1994. Back then no one expected it to attract a huge crowd but much to everyone’s surprise, the first ever event drew over a thousand spectators! All to see a single jump from all the riders! From there, the event has gotten bigger every year and kept moving to different venues in Austria and Germany to accommodate the burgeoning crowd.
The very first overseas Air + Style was held in China in 2010. Since then, more events were added to the program through the years. Recently, musical performances from local and international acts were included in some shows.
Happening in Sydney
One of the people behind Air + Style in Sydney is no other than Shaun White. White himself has participated and won in the event a few times –you can be sure he pulled out all the stops to keep everything fresh and fun in each year he was competing! This year’s festival will include 60 snowboarders and skiers from different countries, most of whom will have participated in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
Fans can enjoy live music performances, fashion, and heart-stopping rides from the competition, all happening at heart of The Domain. The festival starts at 4:00 pm on August 3rd and begins 2 hours earlier on August 4 – 5 at 2:00 pm. All days of the show closes at the same time at 10:00 pm.
All this excitement is sure to build quite an appetite. Surrounding the venue as some of Sydney’s best grub hubs, all within walking distance of the venue. Not only do these places serve good food, they’re also great places to wind down and relax when you’re feeling a bit tired from all the dancing and cheering.
Tickets were first released back in November of last year, but there’s still plenty available. You can get one-day pass ticket at $149 for general admission and $199 for VIP for August 3rd. Tickets for August 4th or 5th are at $169 for general admission and $249 for VIP each. But if you want the multi-day pass, you can get it at $299 for general admission and $449 for VIP.
